SD 460 Series

Medium-volume steam sterilizers with chamber volumes from 160 to 300 litres - manufactured in accordance with European standard EN 285 for large steam sterilizers, and PED Pressure Equipment Directive (97/23/EC).

The SD 460 series provides high-temperature, high-speed sterilization at temperatures ranging from 105 °C to 135 °C.  Available in single or pass-through double door configurations, they can be fitted with integral steam generators where no steam supply is available. The SD 460 series can also be supplied with a low temperature steam & formaldehyde (LTSF) option.

CHAMBER VOLUME

The SD 460 range is based on a square cross-section of 460 mm x 460 mm and varying depths to create different chamber volumes.

STERILIZING CYCLES

The Steridium control system can store up to 20 cycles per machine. A wide variety of standard cycles for medical, laboratory and waste applications can be pre-installed on the autoclave. These cycles can easily be edited by an authorised person using access codes and Steridium’s unique software package. No specialised programming knowledge is required to add new cycles or change existing cycles.

Heat sensitive goods, which may be damaged by the high temperatures found in standard steam sterilizers, can be sterilized at temperatures ranging from 60 °C to 80 °C using the low temperature steam & formaldehyde (LTSF) option.

Heat sensitive items can also be sterilized at temperatures between 37 °C and 50 °C by the Steridium range of ethylene oxide (ETO) sterilizers. These systems also operate at a pressure just below atmosphere, which allows sterilization of items affected by high vacuums.

DOOR CONFIGURATION

The SD 460 range can be supplied with either single or double (pass-through) doors, and are of the vertical sliding type. Perfect counterbalancing provides finger-light operation for manually operated doors, and effortless smooth operation for automatically operated doors. All door configurations include limit switches to detect when the doors are fully open or fully closed, and prevent the doors from being opened until the pressure within the chamber is within safe limits, and cycles from being started until the doors are fully closed.

CONTROL SYSTEMS

State-of-the-art embedded control technology is utilised in the Steridium SD 460 series control systems, with powerful software that provides fully automatic control and monitoring of the sterilizing process. A 180 mm (7”) vacuum fluorescent display gives a full indication of the status of the sterilizer, all alarm conditions, temperatures, pressures, messages, date and time. Four communication ports enable the controller to be linked to PC's, printers and networked with other autoclaves.

STEAM GENERATION

The autoclaves require a reliable source of pressure regulated steam. When this is not available, integral steam generators can be supplied, either built-in to the sterilizer or as freestanding packages. Steam generators are also made to the exacting high standards as the chambers. The same high quality stainless steels used for the construction of the chambers can also be specified for the steam generators.

Although it is recommended that demineralised water be supplied as feed water for the steam generator, if this is not available the steam generator can be operated off normal potable (drinking) water supplies. The control system has a special function whereby the steam generator is automatically blown down to keep the level of contaminants within the generator down to acceptable levels which will not cause damage to the generator or autoclave chamber materials.

VACUUM SYSTEMS

Vacuum is created by means of either a liquid ring vacuum pump, or a water ejector driven by a centrifugal pump. Liquid ring vacuum pumps are fitted with a high efficiency condenser between the chamber drain and the pump to prevent overheating and cavitation of the pump, and resulting in a long service life. Each autoclave is fitted with a recirculating water conservation system which reduces water consumption by the vacuum and condenser systems by up to 80%.

INSTALLATION

RECESSED MODELS

The SD 460 can be recessed into a partition wall where the front facia is positioned flush with the wall while the rest of the machine projects into a rear plant room. Double door pass-through autoclaves can be recessed between two walls.

CABINET MODELS

Free-standing autoclaves are fitted with stainless steel side panels to provide safety and protection for operators. Panels are easily removable for maintenance purposes.

LOADING EQUIPMENT

The SD 460 series can be fitted with internal shelves onto which the load can be directly placed, or make use of internal and external trolley systems due to the size of the chamber. Baskets in a variety of sizes are available for instruments and packages.
